The primary mirror lightweighting has been completed. The mirror is now being
cleaned and will be shipped to a subcontractor of REOSC for etching. The
optical grinding and polishing process will start around the first week of
August.

June 1999
The forward bulkhead section mockup of the SOFIA aircraft was loaded into the
telescope cavity of the Section 46 mockup. A wing pylon on the SOFIA aircraft
was detached and mounted for maintenance work.
May 1999
The 747SP entered the hangar for paint stripping and other modification work.

June 1999
Functional fitting of the JSC 747-100 on the N211 (future SOFIA hangar) ramp
took place on June 17th. The 747 performed some touch and goes for the press.
It was then positioned close to the fueling area for evaluation. Noise and
air samplings were accomplished. The aircraft was then positioned into the
hangar.
