SOFIA Activities in Germany

NASA's SOFIA partner, the German Aerospace Center, or DLR, is making significant progress on a wide variety of telescope assembly components.

Under DLR oversight, SOFIA's telescope is being designed and constructed in Germany by MAN Technologie and Kayser-Threde (KT). DLR will provide approximately 20 percent of the operational support for SOFIA, and German scientists will have access to approximately 20 percent of SOFIA's observing time.
