Martin Burgdorf is the telescope assembly scientist of the German SOFIA Institute and contributes to
performance tests and characterization of various components of the telescope. He took up his duties at the SOFIA Science Center in April 2009 after he had served a stint of four years as project
scientist for RoboNet, a network of the world's largest robotic telescopes. During that time he got
interested in the search for extrasolar planets and joined MiNDSTEp, a consortium, which detects
such objects using the microlensing technique. He was also a member of instrument teams for the
Infrared Space Observatory and Spitzer and published articles about the infrared spectra of the
giant planets in our solar system.
