Astronomical Society of
the Pacific/SETI Institute
As part of an ongoing effort to make
all NASA scientific activities more understandable
and accessible to educators and the general public,
an extensive education and public outreach program
will be conducted for SOFIA. Hundreds of educators
will fly on SOFIA missions, taking their experiences
back to classrooms, museums, and planetariums across
the country. The Education and Public Outreach program
is being jointly developed and operated by the Astronomical
Society of the Pacific, a worldwide organization
of astronomers and educators, and the SETI Institute,
a scientific research and education organization
that conducted the successful teacher flight program
for NASA's Kuiper Airborne Observatory.
