Spectral Resolution vs Wavelength – Multi-Mission Comparisons:
SOFIA, ISO and SIRTF

graph of spectral resolution and wavelength between SOFIA and ISO and SIRFT, description follows

In the graph above, the spectrometers of ISO (SWS and LWS) and SIRTF instruments are compared with the nine first-light instruments of SOFIA. Notice that the wavelength coverage and range of spectral resolution (lambda/deltalambda) of the SOFIA suite of instruments extends to longer wavelengths, beyond the range of the two other missions. SOFIA will perform observations at wavelengths in the optical to the submillimeter, and will reach resolutions of R = 108 (10-3 km/s).
