The Science Center hosted two workshops in the summer of 2020 to help create a plan and timeline, or a “roadmap,” for SOFIA’s instrument development during 2020-2025. These workshops are organized in response to a request from NASA to develop such a roadmap by September 1, 2020 after the termination of the HIRMES instrument development on April 1, 2020.

The first workshop took place June 22-24, 2020, focusing on cases for new instruments/upgrades and generating community feedback. The second workshop, focused on instrument concepts and feasibilities, was held on July 27-29, 2020.

The Instrument Roadmap report is now available here.
